The Fondazione La Società dei Concerti of Milan was born in 1983 from an intuition of Antonio Mormone, a Neapolitan entrepreneur, Milanese by adoption, of humanistic culture and great music lover. Mormone decided to put his entrepreneurial skills at the service of culture and organized a first season of 16 concerts in the Sala Verdi of the Milan Conservatory. First soloist: the young Jean Marc Luisada, awarded at the Dino Ciani Competition in Milan. The first season of 1983 was sold out. Since then, more than 1,500 events have been held for a loyal audience of about 60,000 attendances per year. Over 500 major European orchestras and thousands of renowned soloists have performed, including many under 35 musicians. From Maurizio Pollini to Grigory Sokolov, from Maxim Vengerov to Salvatore Accardo, from Nikita Magaloff to Radu Lupu, Paul Tortelier, Lang Lang, Mstislav Rostropovich to Evgeny Kissin, the greatest artists have played for the Fondazione La Società dei Concerti. The Foundation is a non-profit organization recognized by the Lombardy Region and considered to be of regional importance. It has also received the patronage of the Municipality of Milan.
