The Associazione Ferrara Musica was born in 1989 by the will of the Municipality of Ferrara and the maestro Claudio Abbado, quickly becoming one of the most important Italian concert seasons, known all over the world for the depth and absolute quality of its artistic proposal. Its uniqueness on the national scene has always made possible to give permanent residence to an international and dynamic orchestra. From 1989 to 1997 the resident orchestra was the Chamber Orchestra of Europe (COE), from 1998 the Mahler Chamber Orchestra (MCO) took over, both formations today highly sought after by the most prestigious concert halls around the world, chamber orchestras between the most successful internationally. Since 2018, the European Union Youth Orchestra (EUYO), founded by Abbado in 1976, is the resident orchestra of Ferrara Musica. In addition to the concerts of the resident orchestra, Ferrara Musica organizes every year a rich concert season that runs from September to May and includes about 20 appointments. The program features the most important orchestras in the world and a large number of brilliant soloists and acclaimed conductors, dedicating a significant space also to young talents, especially in the chamber sector. The goal is, yesterday as today, to offer the public concerts of the highest quality, with particular attention to accessibility and the involvement of young people.
